Covering

I agree with the Dont ask, Dont tell policy. This isn't because I am Homophobic, but I am a realist. The armed froces is mainly populated by a straight community, but there are gays also doing the same job fighting for our country. I believe that if this policy changes there will just be more issues that create problems in the United States armed forces. Think about it, would you rather have are army doing there job defending our counrty or fighting over who's aloud to fight. If somebody wants to be gay in the army, airforce, marines, I will look at them no differernt than any other man or woman. Just another individual defending our counrty. Yes, the rights of gay individuals are very important to society, but when it comes to war, I believe we should put this argument aside until we are done with defending the future of the counrty.
On the other hand, fighting for gay rights is kind of a policy that will change the future of the United States armed forces and community's

SAP Genre's

When it comes to the multi-genre portion of my SAP, I have a few things in mind. One that is at the top of my list is facebook page that describes my project into detail. Then I have a few other options such as a power point, brochure, or something along the lines of a newspaper article. If I were to compose a facebook page I would most likely lay out all the information in an organized fashion, and I would also include my data that I had collected. When it comes to sources, I am not quite sure on were I stand at this point. The information that I will be sharing will be the data I had collected, as well as bits of the research information that was gathered.

Jamal's Questionare

Jamal was from a rural area that is known as Joliet, Illinois. According to the quistionare that Jamal filled I learned that he is from the same class as I growing up. In his early childhood he was raised in lower middle class, and as age went on he and his family moved to the upper middle class. When it came to compariaring himself to somebody in a different class, there was a person at his place of work who was trying to turn that job into a career, when Jamal was just there to pay his rent, and cover small expences. "You can't control your destiny and can do what you want to do". One of the most intersesting things about Jamal was the fact he is from the same class, as I. A theme that I seen emerge from this questionare is that a hard working individual can go anywere, and do anything.

Social Action Project Process

As of right now I am currently looking for participants to fill out my survey, and participants to interview.

Resume

1) I believe that the resume that I observed was very thoughrough, and precise. The fact that he is bilingual is very important in job searching today.

2) Some of the strengths of this resume is the fact that it is very organized and well put together. One of the main strengths of this resume is the information that was provided throughout.

3) Some areas improvement would include some proof reading. During the proof reading he should remove certain sections that repeat information.

Probation/Parole Officer

I chose the probation position for several reasons. Most of these reasons include personal interests of the job position. One of these is because I will be graduating with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice Sciences this summer. The salary that I desire starting is also fulfilled by holding this job position. I did not only pick this position for this class, but also plan on pursuing this career once I am finished with school. Another reason I picked this position was because the fact that there were more than one areas that struck my interests.

What can i do with a major

I am in the criminal justice field and I have a few jobs in mind for the future. The one I am most interested in is to be a Federal Agent of some sort. The one that catches my heart the most is drug enforcement agency. Then I have some smaller jobs in mind like a probation officer and or, aftercare.

Free Writing on Sally

Sally French in this quote basically states that even though somebody may be employed to do a certain skill, they may have otehr issues that need to be addressed. Her tone is not angry, but more or less to inform the public of real issues today. In her case it would be her blindness. When it comes to the minorities and special needs, Shapiro makes it clear that this is the way it is because of funding purposes. He states that minorities are twice as likely to be labeled with dissabilities and seperated. These two acts have changed the American perception through tracking the use of people of dissabilities in the work place. These acts also try to protect isolation and segragation of the minority population.

Homophobia Article's

I beleive that the articles on homophobia are very interesting as well as moving. The questions that arise throughout this discussion are from the past as well as the present. The music video that was presented in the presentation was very funny, as well as very true. I think that the presenters of this topic did a great job in revealing the information. The discussion part of the presentation was definatily the attention grabber.

Shitty First Drafts Response

In response to this article I believe that it is the perfect article for this course. I say this because I am pretty sure that almost every time I write a paper the first draft is horrible, and this article helps me understand I am not alone. Lamott breaks a writing down into three drafts. There is the first draft which is described as the child's draft because the fact that you put whatever you can possibly think of into this draft. Then there is the second draft which is known as the up draft were you fix the first draft up. Then there is the final draft that is a finished piece of work. Lamott also states that during the drafting process there should be both editing and revising taking place.

Finding your own voice

I think that when Lamott uses this quote she is pretty much stating that if you keep reading or writing in one style out of the several styles that are present, you will never truely expose your own feelings. Using your own voice may be one of the very most important part as you grow older. An example of this is to express feelings to show real emotions. To me using your voice can only be used in certain instances. For example, there is not much room to use your own voice even though in certain portions of the paper it is expected.

Asain Lesbians

What the author means as a visible minority is to portray a distinctive race such as african american, chinease, and pretty much every race that is not white. What it means to stick to your own kind is basically fitting in with the people of your race or culture. No, people are not left with no choice, but its become more of a social norm than anything to fit into your own culture. The main identity struggle that the author faces is the fact that she is from an asian descent and hangs around a predominatily white crowd. This it self is enough to change the way a person thinks, talks, and dresses. She is overcoming this by simply going outside just one group of friends or race. Me, on the other hand am the very opposite of the author. I am very proud of my heritage in many aspects and I am not afraid to portay it. I too had friends of a different race, and yes it did change a few aspects of me, but it did not change who I am.

Sexism

Some ways that we as males perpetuate sexism is by promoting the use of magazines, calenders, and such with beautiful being portrayed. On the other hand there is the advertising world which promotes these sexism accusations. One way I perpetuate sexism is by looking at ads and saying how beautiful that lady is. I plan on overcoming these accusations by covering my eyes next time a magazine or billboard is present.

American Dream

Article: The dream of the author is clearly presesnt in the first papagraph and his dream is that he wasnts to be President at some point in his life. A few things that the author has gone through in his personal life is the fact that he had family members that were members of the KKK. Another revelation was the fact that he was gay.
Reflections: I believe that the quote by Jennings almost hits it on the nose or in other words this quote couldnt be more true. America is not just going to change all at once, i believe that America will become equal in years to come. I say this because years ago gays were killed if the community found out of this information, and today gays are apart of everyday society as any other citizen is. If you have to change your own personal attributes to make somebody else happy you are truely failing at being yourself.

Rascism "article 1"

Listen: Throughout this entry the author tries to describe in most cases why rascism is present, especially in writing. The main reason our author says rascism is present is because the young and old are simply not taught our history. It is hard to point the finger at one individual do to the chain of people that rascism goes through. For example, internalized oppresion opression is basically a catogory that a certain color gives another which includes jokes, comments and so forth.
Talk: I beleive that simply understanding rascism and putting words into actions will actually help the rascism situation.

Child Traffing in Cambodia

In the article dealing with Child Trafficking in Cambodia there are several emotions present present and expressed in an academic manner. I say this because the author of this article seems to have some sort of relation or passion connecting to her topic of Child trafficking. Throughout this paper there is a lot of literature and statistics that are referred too. This article there is a relation to our class because she refers to other social action topics throughout the paper as well as her paper alone being a social action project.

Paraphrase Exercise

The problem with most students today is the overuse of quotations while taking notes as well as in the final draft. "About 10% of your final manuscript should appear as directly quoted matter." (Lester,46-47, 1976)

Reflection on Breaking to the Code

Thoughout this article there were several interesting facts and statistics. One of the most interestig of these facts to me was that when one of the participants is amoungst somebody they are comftorable being around the participant would rather speak there home toung.

Excercise 3.4

What this article is trying to explain is the main differences between serious music and popular music.  This article insists that the music should and can be classified into these two catagories.  This article argues that there is a very distinct difference between the two of these catogories.

Research Questions

Here are three research quesstions that I had revised and broke down.
How are Immigration laws different in the 21st century compared to the late 20th century?
How did post 9/11 effect these immigration laws?
What type of problem is illegal immigration to the United States today?

I believe that these questions are not completely done, but it is a start to me forming a topic and well put together introduction.
