Narrative on Social Diversity

When the word social diversity comes to mind, I do not really have a good understanding of the term.  My definition of social diversity is the mixing of two or more different social groups or social outlooks on life itself.  In some ways I think that social multiculturalism and social diversity can be categorized in some aspects.  Social multiculturalism through my eyes is the combination of two or more cultural groups in the same geographical.  In my life social diversity is everywhere. For example social diversity is at my place of employment, in the classroom, and just as well when I go out on the weekends.  Social diversity is important in my life because I have a very diverse group of friends in which all of them look up to me in different ways.  Almost all my friends have there own individual personalities which makes us all different in every aspect.  Since I do have such a wide variety of friends social diversities have never had an impact on whether I liked or disliked somebody.
I'd say that one of the biggest influences in my life when it comes to social diversity would be my grandfather.  This is because he has always told me to never judge a book by it's cover, or in other words don't dislike or like somebody by there appearance or race.  One of my most memorable experience's I have had would be when I seen the movie crash for the first time.  Crash is an amazing movie in the sense that there is a message throughout the whole movie, and the message is very clear.  The movie crash displays social diversity, and many cases of multicultural in one area.  One of the most obvious messages that is portrayed in this movie is racism.
One social justice topic that strikes my attention is issue on border patrol between the United States and Mexico.  I think that this is an important topic because the fact that the results of what our country does end up doing will probably affect citizens in a negative or positive way.  right now our country is spending millions of dollars towards the border patrol issue in Mexico.  This issue is very closely related to my career field in the sense that I am quite interested in going into border patrol as a career.  This is because this is were the money is at, and I am highly interested in the topic and the well being of this country as well.

The ?'s of the day

When it comes to reading and writing, I believe that it played a large role in my academic success.  Up until I had started my college career i wasn't to fond of either of the two.  When I entered college I already had a major picked out which is CJS, and personally I had thought that there would be little to no writing at all. Boy was I wrong.  I am not much of a reader at the time so i really don't have a genre that i do read, but if i did read more the genre would probably be mystery/action.  I think that this course an the research that is going to be involved is going to be challenging, but at the same time fairly simple.  I would like to do a little more research on free writing and the styles of writing that are in the "curious researcher".  From the introduction of the curious researcher I learned some interesting facts about how I can tie real situations into a research paper if the topic is right.  Some ways that i would go about researching would be to interview friends, family, and the general public as well to make a solid foundation.  I am not very good with a camera so I pretty much through that idea out the window when it comes to researching.  Like I stated earlier i think that doing interviews would be my strongest type of researching.  One thing i will be researching more this semsester is about pursing the career i have in mind.

Exercise 2

"For one thing, they "suck" puddle water rather than take it in their beaks and throw their heads back to swallow it, something like the difference between drinking a juice box and slinging back a shot of tequila".  This was by far my most favorite quote in the entire entry.  Before I had read this essay I would have never have thought en this to be a research essay.  This is because the type of language that is used and for the most part the first person experience used throughout the essay.  Like one of the bullets stated this essay was pretty interesting, but at the same time was very factual based.  One thing I dd not know was if you trow a piece of clothing in the air after feeding a pigeon they will take flight, or how to remove poo from your hair.  This essay was much different than what I thought a research paper to be, because when most students here research there is usually a sigh following soon after.  If all research essays were composed like this I think it would be easier to right one.  In conclusion to reading this essay I found that reading this research essay was quite enjoyable as much as it was in providing facts.  In reality I think this will give me a confidence boost when it comes to writing essays, by intertwining real life situaitons in as well.

Exercise 1

The first statement that I believe is true is the fact that saying things in a paper that a teacher may disagree with is good in some instances.  I think this is good because by saying something that a teacher disagrees with may give room for a solid argument, or Even get me some Brownie points with an instructor.  One of the statements that I disagree with is saying something original.  In our day and age most of the writings or stories are based on creative writings.  Summarizing what is true about a topic is always a good thing to do in the sense it is like evidence in a crime.  I believe using your opinions in your paper is good to do if you want to make a solid paper, unless it is some sort of research paper.  When it comes to using your own opinions, it is wise to express feelings and or emotions about a certain topic.  Te last statement I agree and disagree with with.  This is because having a good format of a paper usually ends up in solid paper.  On the other hand I could have a well formatted paper, but with no solid content and I would just have a paper fill of nonsense with an introduction, body, and conclusion.
